Pacto Sumaco Community

We are a small community of three hundred families dedicated to farming and working for a better future of our children.  We are blessed with the exuberant biodiversity of the Sumaco Biosphere located west of our town.  We are very interested in protecting the nature that surround us but we find it very difficult to meet our basic needs.  It is for this reason that we have formed a tourism association to develop alternative sources of income that do not hinder on the conservation efforts of the biosphere.

We have received support from the Ecuadorian Foundation Aves & Conservacion.  They visit us every month and provide education regarding the importance of conserving the environment so that our birds will have a home for the future.  We have also received books, bird guides, and they teach us about the different species that live and migrate to these mountains.

We have a community supported rustic cabaña from were you can witness the flight and nesting habits of the Chestnut-fronted Macaws and the Military Macaws which are listed as vulnerable.  Our cabaña is visited every morning and late afternoon by these beautiful birds.

The cabaña has an incredible view of the Sumaco Mountain and, on a clear day, it also possible to see the Antisana Tungurahua and Chimborazo mountains.

We hope that you can visit us to see the Chestnut-fronted Macaws and the Military Macaws that visit the trees next to our  cabañas.  This is important to us since your visit increase the awareness in our community of the benefits of conservation.  We have enough patches of forest that provide great birds and an unforgettable birding experience.
